Iridescent Clouds and Friday's Finds

I noticed the clouds seemed somewhat strange this afternoon. Looking closely I could see a rainbowing around those near the sun. I've never seen this before but it wasn't too hard to google my observation and find out:

"Iridescent clouds are a diffraction phenomenon cause by small water droplets or small ice crystals individually scattering light. "
 ~ thank you wiki!
The kids were just getting off the bus so they were able to see it as well. Only looking at the sun made my daughter's nose feel funny. go figure.

All in all a very good Friday! My morning consisted of 2 sales and 3 thrift shops. Always fun to be on the hunt! Here are a few of today's finds...

Hope your Friday was Fabulous!

Happy Spring!

Happy Spring
but...
What is going on???

I am seriously loving this unbelievable weather! I can't believe I actually brought the screens up today. (yup, old home with old windows). Our area of upstate New York saw very little snow this winter and now record highs for March. Today reached a lovely 76 degrees with more record breaking highs forecasted for the next few days. It is so wonderful to be able to send the kids right to the backyard for some playing in the sunshine when they get home from school.

But...

It just doesn't seem right. Is this it for winter? Will we be hit with some freak storms in April? How will our crops be affected? Will we have an extraordinary amount of pesky bugs like ticks, black flies, and mosquitos?

I can't help but wonder what influence the mild Winter and early Spring will have on our Summer. So I am enjoying this but warily. Any thoughts?

Vintage Finds ~ "Good Morning" Mid Century Style

Fabulous Rooster design that is actually called Good Morning, love it!

I happen to come across a wonderful set of these beauties. It was the kind of find that puts that extra "whoopee" in your step when you walk.
Here's just a sampling. The cups, saucers, bowls, platter, etc. are just a Click away!

Weekend Away

Okay it was more like a night away but getting away during any part of the weekend is a wonderful thing. Mark is away for the month for training in his new job and we went to see him in Syracuse. Even though he's worked far enough away for the last 4 years to only come home on his days off we've really gotten used to him being home since he's now working locally.
We stayed at Hotel Skyler a former temple totally renovated into a super green hotel. Gorgeous and impressive in its efficiency and energy saving design. There's a keypad on the wall to place your hotel keycard. Without it in place, the room doesn't totally power up. When you leave and take the card with you any extras left on (tv and most lights) will automatically turn off.
We spent this beautiful warm Sunday at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. What a great place! They had wonderful exhibits and a great variety of animals.
Ronan enjoyed having the penguin follow his little stick.

Cutouts always make such fun shots!

Sharing!

Our time went so quickly. The ride home wasn't too bad but kids and long drives don't ever mix that well do they?
This was thankfully a false alarm. She always gets carsick and felt like it this time but didn't. Maybe the dramamine and the bracelets helped. (she is awesome with a bucket though!)
Little Stinker trying to hide & pick! Gross!

It was a great time but a definite downside was bedtime. My kids are totally not used to sleeping away from home and it is a nightmare! The new bed, room, etc. are way too novel and getting them to sleep takes forever!

Mmmmm Quiche

Little guy didn't have school today so we had a friend come over to "mommy's house" (not his house, apparently this is solely my house). It was great to spend some time with his friend's mom. We don't live close and it's hard to get together. So glad we did today. I found a super simple but Very delicious quiche recipe. Easily adaptable so feel free to add your favorite veggies and/or meats.
Ham & Broccoli Quiche
(recipe from foodnetwork.com *indicates adaptation on my part)
Ingredients
1 refrigerator pie crust (I used a generic brand & it was great)
1 1/2 cups cubed ham steak*
1 cup frozen broccoli thawed, well drained
1 package *Sargento Artisan Blends Swiss  shredded natural swiss & gruyere cheese*
1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese*
4 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dry ground mustard
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Heat oven to 375 degrees.
Make pie crust as directed on box for one crust filled pie using 9"pie pan
*sear ham steak in a pan then cube.
Layer ham, cheese, & thawed broccoli in crust lined pan.
In medium bowl beat remaining ingredients until well blended. Pour over broccoli.
Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

So easy, so delicious!
